Mobile alert testing on 16 July in Tallinn, Pärnu, and Rakvere
In cooperation with Levira, TalTech, the Estonian Rescue Services Agency, the Emergency Response Centre, the State Communication Foundation, and the Government Office, the Ministry of the Interior will carry out mobile siren testing on July 16 in Tallinn, Pärnu, and Rakvere. Although the test should go unnoticed by people, certain mobile devices may still receive an alert.
In case you receive an alarm during the tests, the project team asks you to report it at taskusireen.ee
There are currently at least 12 models of mobile devices that already support broadcasting frequencies:
- Motorola RAZR Plus 2023 US
- Motorola Edge 50 Fusion
- OnePlus 13R US
- Google Pixel 6 Pro
- Google Pixel 7
- Samsung S25+ US
- Motorola G Power 2025 US
- iPhone 13 US
- Sony Xperia V
- OnePlus 10 Pro
- Fairphone 5
- OnePlus 11 5G
In addition, anyone whose phone is within the coverage area of the mast can receive the alert, regardless of their actual location and the area being tested.
The mobile alert is a technology currently under development in Estonia. The aim is to enable fast and reliable alerts directly to smartphones – even when the mobile network is down or the phone is silent. The solution is based on 5G broadcasting technology (5G Broadcast), which uses a broadcasting network (the network used to distribute radio and TV) instead of traditional mobile communications.
The technology is being developed and tested by Levira and TalTech following a recent procurement.
